Data Visualization Intern
Data Visualization & Communication Intern
Remote; Los Angeles encouraged | 10-20 hours/week (flexible) | Summer 2026 through Winter 2026, with opportunity to extend | Paid (stipend or hourly)
How to apply
Email your resume and a portfolio to bonnie@autoimmune.fund, subject line [Your Name] Data Visualization Intern 2026. Two things we care about most:
- A portfolio or samples that show you making data clear, charts, dashboards, or data-driven graphics. We are evaluating how you turn numbers into understanding, not illustration for its own sake and not raw analysis.
- One visual that makes a complex idea instantly clear, and two or three sentences on why it works.
The one thing this role is
We are looking for someone who understands numbers and can make them clear. That is the whole job. You will take the fund's data, market and funding figures, and the numbers behind the science, and turn it into visuals and presentations that a smart non-expert grasps at a glance.
Numerate and careful enough to be trusted with the data on your own, and able to turn it into a clear, honest, on-brand visual anyone can understand. That is the bar.
This is a data-communication role, not a data-science role. You will not build models, databases, or scoring systems, and you do not need advanced statistics. You do need to read a chart, notice when a figure is wrong, choose an honest way to show it, and make it beautiful and clear. A chart that looks good and says the wrong thing does not help us, and neither does a correct chart no one can read.
Why it matters
Autoimmune disease affects more than 50 million Americans, and roughly 80 percent of them are women. Capital never organized around this the way it did around cancer, in part because no one made the problem visible. The Autoimmune Fund is the first venture fund dedicated to autoimmune and immune-mediated disease, and our flagship project, The Immune Decade Report, is an institutional, LP-facing report benchmarked to the standard of Mary Meeker and McKinsey. Your job is to help the world see the millions of patients, and the market, behind the numbers.
What you'll do
- Turn real data into clear, accurate charts, graphics, and infographics for the report and for investor materials.
- Make a complex idea instantly clear, choosing the right chart and stripping away everything that does not help the reader.
- Design investor and LP presentations, one-pagers, and key-insight visuals in the fund's voice.
- Keep every figure accurate and on-brand, and help maintain a consistent set of chart and slide templates.
What we're looking for
- Numerate and careful. You can be handed a dataset and trusted to represent it accurately, without distorting a scale or mislabeling an axis. This is the floor.
- A real gift for making numbers clear. You can turn a table into a visual a non-expert understands immediately, and you have taste.
- Fluent in a real visualization or design tool, such as Illustrator, Figma, Tableau, or strong PowerPoint. Canva alone is not enough.
- Comfortable presenting and explaining what the data shows.
- Curious, quick to learn, and open to feedback.
Not required
You do not need to be a data scientist, statistician, or engineer. No machine learning, no databases, no scoring models, no advanced analytics. If you love numbers and love making them clear, and you can prove both, that is what we want. We will teach you the science and the investment context.
Who tends to fit
People who live at the intersection of data and design: information designers, data journalists, business or economics students with a strong visual sense, or designers who are genuinely numerate. Less good fits are pure data scientists who cannot make a visual sing, and pure illustrators who are not comfortable with numbers.
Who you'll work with
You will work closely with our founder, Dr. Bonnie Feldman (DDS, MBA), a former clinical dentist, Wall Street equity research analyst, and venture-backed startup founder, featured at TEDx and Stanford Medicine X. You will also collaborate with fellows on the science and investment sides, so the numbers and context come to you, and your job is to make them clear.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Strong candidates are invited to a short, paid exercise: handle a small real dataset and turn it into one clean, accurate, on-brand visual, so we can see both halves of the job at once.
