Position Details

• Service Term: September 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027
• Commitment: 28 hours per week (Half-Time AmeriCorps Member)
• Living Allowance: $12,375 distributed throughout the service term
• Location: Richmond

Duties

• Lead engaging bike safety workshops and educational sessions for elementary school students in Richmond Public Schools.
• Teach students fundamental bicycle handling skills, traffic safety, and helmet safety through hands-on instruction.
• Organize community bike rides, safety clinics, and outreach events that promote active transportation and healthy lifestyles.
• Manage participant data and program reporting.
• Foster strong relationships with schools, community organizations, and local agencies to expand program impact.
• Provide excellent customer service by responding professionally to participant and partner questions, feedback, and concerns.
• Assist with bicycle maintenance, equipment organization, and event logistics.

Qualifications & Skills

• Ability to confidently ride a bicycle and perform basic bicycle maintenance.
• Experience working with elementary-aged youth in educational, recreational, or after-school settings.
• Strong classroom management skills.
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading engaging presentations.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace and Slack.
• Experience engaging culturally diverse communities.
• Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
• Background in education, public health, recreation, social work, or a related field is preferred but not required.

• Living Allowance: $12,375 (distributed throughout the service term)
• Segal AmeriCorps Education Award: $3,697.50 upon successful completion of service, which can be used toward qualified student loans or future educational expenses.
