Social Media Intern

Social Media Intern:


 

OVERVIEW

The Social Media Intern works under the direction of the Digital Media Manager and assists with managing the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo's social media presence across multiple platforms. This internship provides hands-on experience in content creation, community management, social media strategy, and live event coverage. Interns will help tell the story of one of the nation's largest rodeos while gaining real-world experience in digital marketing, audience engagement, and brand communications.


 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in planning, creating, writing, and scheduling content across social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube. 
  • Capture real-time photo and video content for a variety of projects, including photoshoots, Fairgrounds events, livestock shows, and volunteer committee events. 
  • Create engaging captions and copy that align with the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo brand voice and marketing objectives.
  • Support community management by monitoring and responding to direct messages, comments, and audience inquiries across social media platforms.
  • Like, comment on, and repost content when individuals, sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, or partners tag or mention the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
  • Engage with other social media accounts within the agriculture, rodeo, western lifestyle, entertainment, nonprofit, and live event industries to increase visibility and strengthen community relationships.
  • Assist with live event coverage by publishing real-time posts, stories, and updates throughout the Rodeo and other key events.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Creative teams to ensure content aligns with campaign goals and brand standards.
  • Brainstorm and develop creative concepts for social media campaigns, reels, stories, and other digital content.
  • Track social media performance metrics and assist with reporting and analytics.
  • Organize and maintain digital content libraries, media assets, and content calendars.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining website content, including event pages, forms, promotional graphics, and other digital marketing materials to ensure information remains current and accurate.
  • Research social media trends, emerging platform features, trending audio, and best practices to help inform content strategy.
  • Assist with influencer, sponsor, and partner content coordination as needed.
  • Gain hands-on experience in digital marketing, content strategy, and audience engagement while working alongside industry professionals.
  • Assist with additional marketing and communications projects as assigned.



 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with major social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Creative mindset with a strong visual eye and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of current social media trends and best practices.
  • Ability to adapt messaging while maintaining a consistent brand voice across platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience with social media scheduling platforms such as Agorapulse or Meta Business Suite is preferred.
  • Basic experience with content creation tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Express, or Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during the Rodeo.


 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Pursuing or recently completed coursework in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Portfolio or examples of previous social media work, content creation, or digital marketing projects (classwork, internships, freelance work, or personal projects are acceptable).
  • Familiarity with social media analytics, content planning, and basic photo/video editing is preferred.


 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo provides interns with access to professional cameras, lenses, computers, Adobe Creative Suite software, and other production equipment needed for the internship. We understand academics come first and will work with interns to create a schedule that complements their class schedule whenever possible, while ensuring internship responsibilities are met.
  • During the 2027 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo (February 11–28, 2027), interns are required to work daily, including weekends, evenings, and nights until the conclusion of the event.
  • From October through the start of Rodeo, interns are expected to work in the office 3–4 days per week. Schedules will be determined upon hire.
  • This position requires working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and around livestock.
  • Extensive walking and standing for long periods should be expected while covering events across the Fairgrounds.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.


 

 

SCHEDULE

October 12, 2026 – February 10, 2027

  • 3–4 days per week in the office
  • Approximately 20 hours per week

February 11–28, 2027 (San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo)

  • Daily on-site coverage at the Fairgrounds
  • Approximately 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (schedule may vary based on assignments)

March 1–12, 2027

  • 3–4 days per week in the office
  • Approximately 20 hours per week
