NGS Laboratory Technician (Night Shift)

Job Title: Laboratory Technician – Next-Generation Sequencing (Part-time, evening shift)

Location: Berkeley, CA, onsite

Working Hours: 9pm-3am, 3 days per week Choose one: Mon-Wed or Tue-Thur.

Salary: $30/hr

Start: ASAP

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate / Technician to support our NGS operations. This individual will play a key role in running automation protocols, preparing samples, and ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and speed. The role is hands-on and ideal for someone eager to apply their molecular biology training in a dynamic startup environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute NGS sample preparation workflows, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and library prep.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory automation instruments and liquid handling systems.
  • Follow standardized protocols with precision to ensure reproducibility and quality.
  • Monitor turnaround times to meet customer delivery expectations.
  • Perform routine quality control checks and troubleshoot experimental or technical issues.
  • Follow all safety procedures, such as wearing proper PPE and taking breaks when standing for extended periods.
  • Accurately document experimental procedures and results
  • Communicate results clearly with the team and perform troubleshooting tasks when needed
  • Contribute to process improvements in workflow efficiency and data quality.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, or related field (or equivalent laboratory experience).
  • Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques: pipetting, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR.
  • General understanding of genomics and sequencing principles.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to high-quality work.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent communication skills and eagerness to learn new technologies.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with liquid handling automation or robotic platforms.
  • Exposure to bioinformatics or sequencing data analysis tools (a plus, not required).
  • Familiarity with NGS platforms
