Job Opportunity: Speech and Debate Coach
Location: Irvine, CA (Main Campus) and various school districts

Cogito Debate (Cogito International Inc.) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Debate Coach to join our dedicated team. As a Speech and Debate Coach, you will play a pivotal role in guiding students to develop strong communication, critical thinking, and debate skills while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.

This is an open position for classes starting Spring 2026, with the possibility of a long-term commitment.

NOTE:

COACH NEED TO HAVE A BACKGROUND IN SPEECH OR DEBATE

Role Description

  • Facilitate Speech and Debate Sessions: Conduct engaging and informative classes aimed at enhancing students’ speech and debate skills, including preparation for and attendance at tournaments.
  • Provide Constructive Feedback: Offer personalized feedback to help students improve public speaking, argumentation, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Maintain Professionalism: Uphold high standards of professionalism and integrity in all interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Attend Training and Promotional Events: Participate in training sessions and promotional events to stay current with industry trends and represent the program.
  • Adhere to Schedule: Follow schedules provided by the Cogito Administration team and promptly communicate any conflicts or changes.
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear and consistent communication with students, parents, and administration regarding progress, concerns, and achievements.
  • Teaching Load & Availability: Coaches must be able to take on at least 2–3 classes and maintain availability between 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM, possibly including weekends. Specific class time will be provided during the interview.

Cogito Coach Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in communication, English, education, or a related field required. Advanced degrees are welcomed.
  • Speech & Debate Experience: Extensive experience participating in or coaching speech and debate. Competitive debate or forensics background preferred.
  • Format Knowledge: Familiarity with MS and HS Parliamentary Debate, SPAR Debate, Lincoln-Douglas, Policy Debate, and various speech events.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective instruction and collaboration.
  • Teaching & Leadership: Ability to inspire, motivate, and guide students while managing classes and teams effectively.
  • Analytical & Critical Thinking: Strong skills in argument analysis, research, and strategic thinking.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage class logistics, competition schedules, and travel coordination.
  • Networking: Willingness to engage with the broader speech and debate community through workshops, tournaments, and conferences.
  • Ethical Conduct: Commitment to fair play, sportsmanship, and ethical coaching practices.
