Educator/ Tutor- Entrepreneurship and mentorship
Job Description
Pay: $20–$30 per hour (based on experience)
Start Date: August 3, 2026
Position Overview
Ignite the Mind K-12 is hiring educators for two program roles at our Adams Elementary partner school — Entrepreneurship & Financial Literacy and Tutoring & Mentorship. These are year-round positions serving 6th through 8th grade students across a full school year.
We are looking for educators who are relational, culturally aware, and passionate about more than just content delivery. These roles require someone who can build genuine trust with middle schoolers, hold them to high expectations, and show up as a consistent, invested adult presence in their lives. Whether you are facilitating a business pitch or sitting in a circle with a student working through a passion project, the through-line is the same — you believe in these students and your presence reflects that.
Educators may be placed in one or both programs depending on fit, availability, and program needs.
About the Roles
Entrepreneurship & Financial Literacy — 8th Grade
You will facilitate a year-round business and financial literacy program for 8th grade students. Students build and launch a real business, develop entrepreneurial thinking, and learn how to manage the money they earn. The program closes with student-led capstone presentations. This role is ideal for someone with a background in business, finance, or economics who can make real-world concepts feel exciting and attainable for young people.
Tutoring & Mentorship — 6th–8th Grade
You will lead small-group sessions for selected middle school students across two semester-long cohorts. Sessions balance targeted academic support with social-emotional learning, identity affirmation, and a student-driven passion project that each student presents at a semester showcase. This program is explicitly built around the African American student experience at Adams and prioritizes cultural concordance — we are actively seeking educators who can show up authentically for these students and build the kind of relationships that change trajectories. This role is ideal for someone with a background in counseling, social work, education, or youth mentorship.
Schedule
2 days per week, September through May
(Specific days confirmed with site before program launch)
Responsibilities

Qualifications
- Background in education, business, counseling, social work, or a related field preferred
- Experience working with middle school students or youth in a mentorship or instructional capacity strongly preferred
- Culturally responsive and relationship-driven — this is non-negotiable for the Mentorship role
- Reliable, professional, and self-directed
- Comfortable leading both structured curriculum and open, student-centered spaces
- Passion for equity, youth development, and community impact
