Budget Operations Student Assistant
About the Opportunity
UC Agriculture and Natural Resources’ Resource Planning and Management team is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated student assistant to support budget operations and internal administrative processes.
In this role, you will maintain staffing, funding, and budget tracking tools; enter and validate information; prepare and organize documentation; and help coordinate recurring workflows and deadlines. Your work will support accurate records, timely processing, and effective resource planning across UC ANR.
This position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in budgeting, business operations, data stewardship, process documentation, and administrative coordination while working with experienced professionals in a collaborative environment.
The position requires working in the Oakland office at least one day per week, with the opportunity to work remotely for the remainder of the week. Work hours may be scheduled around academic commitments.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain and update staffing, funding, budget, and other internal tracking tools; review entries for completeness and accuracy. (55%)
• Prepare, format, organize, and route staffing and funding documentation, internal reports, and reference materials. (20%)
• Assist with documenting procedures, monitoring deadlines, and identifying practical improvements to recurring workflows. (15%)
• Participate in team meetings and assist with file management, meeting coordination, and other administrative tasks. (10%)
Qualifications
Applicants must:
• Be enrolled or accepted at an accredited community college, college, or university.
• Maintain at least a half-time course load of six units and provide proof of student status.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Be highly organized and able to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and follow-up items.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Be attentive to detail and committed to maintaining accurate records.
• Be able to learn new systems and procedures quickly.
• Be able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
• Exercise good judgment and discretion when handling internal information.
• Be available to work in the Oakland office at least one day per week.
Experience with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Google Workspace, databases, or administrative tracking systems is preferred but not required. Students with an interest in finance, business administration, organizational management, public administration, or a related field are encouraged to apply.
