Exhibition Development Internship

Internship Title: Exhibition Development Internship - Fall 2026

Internship Location:  Hybrid - remote and in person at the History Colorado Center, Denver, CO

Stipend: $1,500. The stipend is not salary or compensation. The stipend is meant to support study and research during the tenure of the appointment and will be issued upon completion of the internship. 

Qualified candidates may receive academic credit through their college or university. *Check with your school's Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting the hiring offer to determine if this position satisfies the criteria for receiving academic credit.

Desired Schedule:  A Minimum of 6 hours/week for at least 84 total hours (September 8-December 15; flexible start and end date and weekly schedule will be determined with student’s schedule)

Broad Scope of Position: Join the History Colorado Exhibitions team to gain meaningful knowledge of and experience in museum exhibition development. The Exhibition Development Intern will work under the supervision of an Exhibition Developer and Historian. Duties will include:

• Contribute to the development of a future museum exhibition on mid-20th century Colorado history, including object research, writing, and administrative tasks. 
• Assist with the implementation of exhibition evaluation surveys for current and upcoming exhibitions, including surveying visitors, processing response data, and reporting findings
• Complete at least one informational interview with a History Colorado staff member
• Complete monthly readings relating to exhibition development and interpretation.

Outcomes: The intern will learn about exhibition development and general museum practices. They will also grow their professional network by working with and benefiting from mentorship from the Exhibition Developer and Historian team. Upon completion of the experience, the intern will be familiar with many of the steps to executing the development of an exhibition. The intern will complete their internship by delivering a presentation of either compiled evaluation data or research material to the Exhibition Development team.

Desired Skills & Academic Field of Study: Current or recent graduate-level students or junior/senior-level undergraduates in the field of history, public history, anthropology, museum studies, or other relevant fields are welcome to apply. We especially welcome applicants with experience in researching or knowledge of the Cold War. The applicant must be able to complete accurate historical research, engage with museum visitors, be detail oriented, and have a high degree of self-motivation.
