Northstar Behavioral Health Network is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and motivated On-Call Behavioral Health Technician to provide coverage during staffing shortages, employee absences, vacations, and other scheduling needs.

Scheduling Expectations

  • Provide coverage for open shifts, call-ins, vacations, and staffing shortages.
  • Maintain reasonable availability for AM, PM, overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts as needed.
  • Work at least one 8-hour shift each month to remain active in the on-call pool.
  • Report to scheduled shifts on time and maintain dependable attendance.
  • Communicate availability and scheduling changes promptly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor client safety and remain knowledgeable about client and facility activities.
  • Complete regular house rounds and document required observations.
  • Administer client medications and accurately complete medication documentation.
  • Maintain clear, objective, and timely documentation in client files and communication logs.
  • Respond appropriately to client needs, behavioral concerns, medical concerns, and emergencies.
  • Provide clients with encouragement, structure, accountability, and respectful support.
  • Serve as a positive role model while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Assist with client admissions, orientations, appointments, recreational activities, and discharges.
  • Transport clients safely to approved appointments and destinations when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect client rights.
  • Follow program policies, procedures, house expectations, and Minnesota 245G requirements.
  • Assist with food preparation, household cleaning, laundry, stocking supplies, and other facility duties.
  • Communicate important client and facility information during shift-change reports.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication, observation, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and respectful during challenging situations.
  • Willingness to learn and follow applicable Minnesota statutes and regulations.
  • Must understand and follow Northstar Behavioral Health Network’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  • Previous experience in behavioral health, residential treatment, mental health, healthcare, corrections, or substance use disorder services is preferred but not required.
