Positions available for the 2026-2027 school year

Reports to: High School Principal (or designee)

 

Niles Community Schools is looking for a dynamic Middle/High School Choir Director. Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the area of music education.
  • Must hold a valid/current Michigan Teacher Certification or be eligible for one in the area of Music Education (JX or JQ). Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Three years teaching and choir directing experience.

 

Essential Duties (non-prioritized):

  • Direct high school choral performers, such as concert choir and Counterpoints, soloists, and ensembles.
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in off campus events.
  • Provide for choir participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, pep rallies, and community activities.
  • Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and Niles Community Schools policies and rules.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.
  • Plan and coordinate off-season activities (e.g., training clinics, etc.). 
  • Assist with participant concert attire (e.g. ordering, distribution, collection, refurbishing, etc.). 
  • Supervise all performances. 
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 
  • Organize auditions. Maintain the integrity of the selection process. Help parents/students understand program objectives and performance standards.
  • Travel to three buildings daily for class (Niles High School, Ring Lardner & Eastside).
  • Other duties as assigned.
