Orientation and Mobility Specialist

Job Title: Orientation & Mobility Specialist
Location: Miami, FL (33130)
Schedule: Full-time, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: $60,000 – $70,000 annually

Position Overview

Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Orientation & Mobility Specialist to support individuals with visual impairments in developing the skills necessary for safe and independent navigation. This full-time, permanent opportunity focuses on providing individualized instruction across home, school, and community environments, empowering clients to achieve greater independence and confidence.

Key Responsibilities


  • Assess client needs and develop individualized orientation and mobility plans aligned with functional goals.


  • Provide direct instruction in safe travel techniques in both indoor and outdoor environments.


  • Teach the effective use of residual vision, low vision devices, and other sensory strategies.


  • Support clients in building problem-solving, navigation, and independent living skills.


  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate documentation, including service logs and reports.


  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to reinforce instructional strategies and client goals.


  • Assist in adapting curriculum materials and incorporating best practices in the field.


  • Provide outreach services and support skill generalization into real-life settings.


  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.


  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive instructional environment.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Orientation & Mobility or related field required (Master’s preferred).


  • Active Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification (or eligibility to obtain).


  • Experience working with individuals with visual impairments preferred.


  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.


  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.


  • Proficiency with computers and ability to learn internal systems.


  • Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to travel within the community.


  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.


  • Must pass background check and drug screening.
