Programs and Education Internship
The Mississippi Department of Archives & History (MDAH) is seeking an intern to join the programs and education section of the Programs and Communication division to serve as a programs and education Intern. Intern will be working with both the program and education teams on the Mississippi Historical Marker program, preparing for the Mississippi Historical Society annual meeting, and the Fall Teacher Workshop. The intern will also be able to learn about the research season of National History Day. The intern will learn about institutional and public program planning, team building, and creating educational materials for teachers and students.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Using the digital archive to plan and create educational materials
- Utilizing agency information and staff knowledge to aid in the Fall Teacher Workshop and help lead student activities in classrooms
- Researching and Writing and write on a topic from Mississippi history they are interested in, as well as cataloging Mississippi Historical Marker Information.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program, preferably in History, Education, or English
- Excellent writing skills
- Ability to self-motivate
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe.
Time Commitment:
This internship spans from September 14 to December 4, with a requirement of 140 in-person hours at our Jackson, Mississippi campus. This intern will be required to be present for the Fall Teacher Workshop on September 25 and the America 250 Living History Program the first weekend of October. Working hours are flexible, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The specific schedule will be established in accordance with the availability and mutual agreement between the intern and MDAH staff.
