FWS - Social Media and Communications Assistant
The Administrative Office of Narrative Media that assists the Departments of Communication Arts, Kinetic Imaging, Photography & Film, and the Cinema Program is seeking enthusiastic work study eligible students for the position of Social Media and Communications Assistant. Daily tasks include but aren’t limited to:
- Collaborating with the Administrative Affairs Coordinator and other student workers to create and maintain editorial calendar for social media and web content.
- Generating a catalog of "newsworthy" pieces including, but not limited to, alumni news & interviews, faculty achievements, student accomplishments, etc.
- Compiling content for email outreach and the Narrative Media Group-wide newsletter (Departments of Kinetic Imaging, Communication Arts, Cinema, and Photography + Film)
- Drafting posts for Narrative Media Group social media and VCUarts website
- Periodically checking Narrative Media Group department pages on VCUarts website for accuracy
- Creating drafts on the VCUarts website for events and artworks in “The Work” section
This position is hybrid-synchronous; certain tasks may be performed remotely, but several will necessitate in person availability. Training and first shifts are required to be in person.
Qualifications:
- Must have been awarded / qualify for Federal Work Study
- Must be punctual, organized, independent, and pay close attention to detail
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must work well in a fast-paced environment and display professionalism in all actions and communications
- Must be flexible, creative, and adaptable
- Ability to work between 6-8 hours per week
- Ability to attend Narrative Media Group events outside of normal business hours to promote and document events as assigned.
Scheduled shifts:
This position is a federal work study eligible only position. It's a part-time position that consists of approximately 6-8 hours per week. We will work around your class schedule.
Preferred Skills:
- Basic computer skills (Adobe CC and Microsoft Office)
- Working knowledge of Google Products (Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Drive, Slides, etc.)
- Graphic design (Canva, Photoshop, Indesign), video editing, and/or photography skills are preferred
- For at least one of these positions, Graphic design skills are preferred
***Students majoring in a VCUarts program are highly preferred.
