Somerset County’s Children and Youth Services Agency is committed to protecting children, strengthening families, and building safer communities and as a Social Services Aide III, you play a vital role in supporting families through education, life‑skills training, and preventive services. This position focuses on working directly with families to promote safe parenting practices, strengthen household stability, and reduce the need for out‑of‑home placements. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Social Services Aide III performs a range of supervised support and preventive service duties to assist families and children, including:
- Provide parenting education, life‑skills training, and supportive services to promote safe caregiving, family stability, and child well‑being
- Assist families with nutrition, budgeting, health care basics, and personal hygiene through home visits, office appointments, and group instruction
- Assess family needs and household conditions, including food supplies, and provide education, support, or referrals to appropriate community resources
- Assist caseworkers with client contact, scheduling, transportation, and collaboration regarding service progress and needs
- Support and monitor families involved in Agency or court‑referred programs and assist with supervised parent‑child visitation when appropriate
- Preparing documentation and providing testimony for Court proceedings, under supervision
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must meet ONE of the following:
- Graduation from high school, or its equivalency, and three years of experience in public contact work in a human services agency which included one year of experience in interviewing and obtaining information; or
- An associate's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences, and one year of experience in a human services agency; or
- Any combination of equivalent experience and training.
Other Requirements:
- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license required
- Must pass a background investigation
- A conditional offer of employment will require successful drug screening
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law (Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.)

- Pennsylvania residency requirement is currently waived for this title
