Secondary History Teacher (Christian School)
Secondary History Teacher
History is not neutral. Every historian writes from a worldview, and every history classroom teaches from one. At Lemons-Aid Learning, we teach history as God's providential work through human events, tracing his sovereignty across empires, revolutions, and reformations. We are looking for a history teacher who shares that conviction and can teach from it well, integrating a biblical worldview at the level of ideas.
The Position
This part-time teacher will lead live virtual history classes for grades 6-12, forty-five to fifty-five minutes per class, one or two times per week per course. The role is fully remote, typically three to four days per week, with a guaranteed minimum of fifteen hours during the school year, regardless of enrollment. We offer a competitive hourly rate, paid sick leave, a 401(k) with company matching, and free classes at Lemons-Aid for your homeschool children as space allows. The start date is August 2026 or sooner.
What You'll Do
You will teach World History, US History, Ancient History, and periods you propose. You will design creative courses like Woman Warriors: From the biblical Deborah to Margaret Thatcher or The World's Greatest Baddies, and you will select or build curriculum to support them. You will weave a gospel-centered biblical worldview naturally throughout your teaching, and you will differentiate instruction for mixed-ability classrooms. You will build relationships with students and families, especially with students who have lost interest in or have yet to discover the wonder of studying history.
How We Teach
Our teaching follows the explicit teaching model. Scripture is clear that wisdom is transmitted, not discovered. Proverbs is a father instructing his son, not a child constructing his own understanding. In a history classroom, simulations and experiential activities build on direct teaching and enrich learning. We are looking for someone who builds a foundation of knowledge and then deepens understanding through simulations. We are not constructivists and reject “inquiry-based learning" outside of an explicit, methodical process of historical inquiry, research, and scholarship.
What This Job Is Not
This is not a lecture-based position. If your instinct is to talk for fifty minutes while students take notes, this is not the right position.
This is not project-based learning as a primary method. Experiential activities have their place in history, and we use them alongside direct teaching.
This is not textbook chapter-by-chapter teaching. We hold no rigid scope and sequence, and you will have creative freedom.
This is not a full-time position. If you need forty hours and full benefits for a family of four, this role will not meet your needs.
This is not a role for teachers who need constant direction. You will be supported, and you will also take ownership.
This is not a checkbox Christian role. If biblical worldview integration feels forced or awkward, this is not the right fit.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
- a bachelor's degree in history or a related field,
- a teaching certificate (active or lapsed, or willingness to obtain one),
- teaching experience in any format,
- strong content knowledge across US, World, and Ancient history,
- natural gospel-centered biblical worldview integration,
- the ability to plan your own units and lessons, and
- strong tech proficiency with Zoom, learning management systems, and educational technology, or a clear ability to learn new tools quickly.
Preferred qualifications include:
- the ability to teach English Language Arts with the provided curriculum for additional hours,
- experience designing creative courses, and
- experience with differentiated instruction for mixed-ability classrooms.
Optional
Opportunities include leading families through historical trips in the summer: Boston, MA, Washington D.C. Europe, Israel, etc.
Application Process
Step 1: Complete our full application, which includes questions on biblical worldview integration.
Step 2: Finalists will create a sample lesson demonstrating biblical integration, explicit teaching, and experiential learning.
Step 3: Final candidates will interview and teach a portion of that sample lesson.
