FWS - Facilities & Equipment Checkout Assistant

This position involves providing assistance in the use and upkeep of equipment such as: lab computers, cameras, tripods, lights, microphones, and other sensitive recording equipment that is available for student use. Assistants also support students, faculty, and staff in use and maintenance of department facilities such as the Gear Room, Cyc Wall, Set Building studio and Sound Stage, and Equipment Checkout facilities. Maintaining these facilities includes regular supply upkeep, equipment inspection and maintenance, cleaning, and ensuring proper use and storage of equipment and supplies.

Facilities & Equipment Checkout Assistants are also responsible for enforcing Cinema policies at all times and will actively and authoritatively pursue this obligation and maintain communication with management, faculty, and staff. This position does not assist within the Cinema classroom or with course instruction.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring Cinema spaces, such as the Gear Room, Cyc Wall, Set Building studio and Sound Stage, and Equipment Checkout facilities.
  • Service and maintenance of facilities and equipment that facilitate the department’s curriculum.
  • Facilitate the check out process of equipment and rooms to faculty and students though VCUarts Checkout software.
  • Facilitate the return of equipment to Equipment Checkout by checking for damaged or missing parts, and reporting to the Cinema Office and Facilities Coordinator.
  • Ensure facility cleanliness, and provide minor maintenance, such as patching and painting walls. 
  • Assisting students with minor technical understanding of gear and equipment.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks within the Cinema Office when needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have been awarded / qualify for Federal Work Study program
  • Must be attentive and punctual at all times
  • Must have adequate organizational skills as well as attention to detail
  • Strong email capabilities and good communication skills
  • Must work well in a fast-paced environment and be professional in all actions and communications
  • Must be flexible, creative, and adaptable.
  • Must have availability at least once Monday through Thursday. 

 

Scheduled shifts:

This position is a federal work study eligible only position. Part-time position, approximately 8-10 hours per week. We are looking to cover various times with multiple hires, some during normal business hours (8:45am - 5pm), however we are seeking availability on weekends (8:45am - 5pm). We will work around your class schedule.

***Second and Third-Year Students majoring in Cinema or related fields preferred, but not required.
