POSITION DESCRIPTION
The City of Fresno, City Attorney’s Office is seeking a dynamic communications leader. Under the direction of the City Attorney, the Community Coordinator will serve as the department communications person responsible for developing and executing strategic communications that elevate transparency between the City Attorney’s Office and the public. The Community Coordinator performs specific assignments in such areas as public relations, program development and operation, and coordinates special events and projects. Incumbents must demonstrate initiative, tact, and sensitivity to the diverse needs of a pluralistic population and must be able to communicate effectively with diverse groups within the City.
For this assignment in the City Attorney’s Office, duties and responsibilities may include but not limited to: develop and implement communications strategies in alignment with the City Attorney’s objectives; produce clear, compelling content, including messaging, presentations, reports, newsletters, and press materials; manage website and social media platforms for all units within the department, including content creation, updates, and engagement; support executive leadership with talking points and public‑facing communications; coordinate media relations, including interviews and press events; attend and take photographs of events.
The ideal candidate should possess exceptional writing, editing, photography, and storytelling skills. Strong understanding of digital marketing tools and platforms (e.g., email and social media). Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, engaging content. Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar.
This is an unclassified position in which the incumbent serves at the will of the City Attorney.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
The City of Fresno offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary range for Community Coordinator is from $51,768 to $93,000 (Effective 7/1/2026, the range is $53,328 - $95,796). The employee benefits package below is subject to change at any time and includes:
BENEFITS: UNIT 2 Classification - Management Confidential - Unrepresented
HEALTH INSURANCE: The City contributes toward monthly premiums for PPO medical, dental, and vision for the employee and their dependents.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT: IRS 125 Plan for health and dependent care expenses.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary 457 plan with Fidelity Investments to increase your retirement savings.
HOLIDAYS: Ten (10) City-observed annual holidays in addition to one (1) birthday and two (2) personal days.
MANAGEMENT LEAVE: 60 hours per fiscal year, 48 of which can be cashed out annually.
ANNUAL LEAVE: Accrual of 15.5 hours per month of Annual Leave, with cash-out provisions.
SUPPLEMENTAL SICK: 40 hours per fiscal year. 80 hours lifetime maximum
LIFE INSURANCE: Benefit equal to annual salary; premium paid by the City.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY: Benefit equal to 66.66% of monthly salary up to $7,500 per month after 30 days of disability; premium paid by the City.
HEALTH REIMBURSEMENT ARRANGEMENT: To reimburse retirement medical insurance.
RETIREMENT: City of Fresno Retirement System - one of the state's most well-funded public retirement systems. Reciprocity with other CA public agencies, including CalPERS. Retirement benefits vest after five years of service. City employees do not participate in Social Security.
DEFERRED RETIREMENT OPTION PROGRAM (DROP): a voluntary program that allows an employee to deposit retirement benefits into a special savings account within the retirement system while working for the City of Fresno for up to 10 years. Participation requires a minimum age of 50 and that the employee is vested. Benefits include ownership of the accumulated funds, compound interest earnings, and alternative distribution options.
THE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for further consideration:
Education:
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, political science, business administration, mass communications or related field.
AND
Experience:
Two (2) years of administrative support experience emphasized public and community relations. Additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
For this assignment, applicants with education in communication, marketing, or public relations along with experience in economic development, government, nonprofit, or related sectors is preferred. Experience in speech/script writing, social media, media relations and photography is desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver License may be required at time of appointment. Occasional local travel may be required.
