The Student Marketing Assistant will work closely with the Northern Michigan University marketing and communications social media team to plan, develop and execute digital campaigns across a variety of social media platforms.

 

From idea generation to content creation to analysis, you will be engaged in every part of the process to help build a robust social media presence for NMU. You may also be asked to take on additional assignments, such as creating posters and digital signage for on-campus events.

 

In this position, you will be responsible for creating unique content in the form of graphics, videos, GIFs, etc., and ensuring we are communicating relevant and engaging messages to our audience, which includes prospective students, current students, parents, alumni, faculty/staff and the surrounding community.

 

Compensation

This is a paid position. Compensation begins at $14.25/hour with fall and winter semester raises.
 

Work Schedule

Hours are to be scheduled between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

A student may work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year, depending on the class schedule. 

A minimum of 10 hours per week is required. Occasional nights and weekends may be required.

Negotiable, with a targeted start date in August/ September 2026

Qualifications
 

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • Proficient in video editing tools (CapCut, Adobe Rush/Premiere, DaVinci).
  • Be able to think quickly and respond creatively to on-campus events and news.
  • Be able to create campaigns and content for the recruitment process.
  • Be able to manage multiple projects at a time and meet deadlines promptly
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and with others.
  • Be able to work within the NMU Social Media Guidelines, as set by the Senior Social Media Coordinator, when creating content for specific social media platforms.
  • Be able to work within the branding guidelines, as created by the University Marketing and Communications department, when creating content to post to NMU’s official social media accounts.
