Job Description and Duties
Come join our team at Mount Shasta Hatchery. As a newly hired Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid you can expect to fill your days with a variety of tasks that enhance fisheries and fishing opportunities in California. Incumbents will perform daily fish hatchery duties that include feeding fish, cleaning screens, cleaning ponds, picking up dead fish and eggs, maintaining hatchery grounds, and record keeping. Incumbents will also assist technicians with planting fish, spawning, diploid and triploid, egg care as well as caring for all stages of fish development. You should also expect to operate fish pumps, all-terrain vehicles, forklifts, tractors, mowers, snow removal equipment, power tools and fish planting vehicles. You will work on the McCloud River Redband Program as well as the Photoperiod Program. Incumbents will have the opportunity to assist with tours as well as our Kids Fishing Events held in the summer.

The Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid classification is a non-testing classification.
• Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063.
• Applicants who receive public assistance need to identify themselves as CalWORKs recipients in the comments section of the STD 678, Examination/Employment Application.
• Applicants must submit verification of CalWORKs eligibility, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligibility or a copy of the most recent aid check stub.
• Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program. If CalWORKs verification is not submitted with the application, it will not be processed as CalWORKs eligible.
• Participation by a public assistance recipient is voluntary and in no event shall any person be subject to sanctions, through loss of benefits or eligibility, for not applying for, accepting, or continuing in a seasonal or entry level non-testing classification opening.

Working Conditions
Must wear a prescribed uniform when engaging with the public, conducting fieldwork, in the office and on-site visits. Incumbent will be required to stand for long periods of time in cold water, unheated buildings, and work in extreme weather conditions. Use of a state-owned vehicle for travel is required between remote facilities and field sites where public transportation is not readily available. Weekend duties will be required on a rotational basis. Days off may be other than Saturday and Sundays. State owned housing is not available and is not required as a condition of employment.
