WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As an Interdisciplinary Scientist, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:

  • Providing scientific, technical, and program oversight of medical countermeasure development, including research, testing, regulatory, and performance evaluation.
  • Analyzing impacts of scientific, technical, and budget changes on projects and taking action to mitigate risks and inform leadership.
  • Communicating medical countermeasure procurement and contract activities, plans, and progress to HHS partners, contractors, and stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

0401 Basic Qualifications: You must possess one of the items listed below (A or B):

A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B.A combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.


0601 Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.


1310 Basic Qualifications: You must possess one of the items listed below (A or B):

A. Degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

B. Have a combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical sciences and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.


1320 Basic Qualifications: You must possess one of the items listed below (A or B):

A. Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

B. A combination of education and experience: Course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.


In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year of specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:

  • Applying advanced theories, principles, and methods in at least one scientific discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, microbiology, or health sciences) to lead research and development strategies, with significant contributions through senior-level academic, industry, or government roles;
  • Implementing project and program management principles, methods, and tools to plan, coordinate, and manage projects and resources, ensuring effective oversight of scope, schedule, performance, and outcomes; and
  • Communicating effectively across formats and audiences, using appropriate methods to engage senior managers, team members, customers, and/or government representatives.
