Internship Title:  Neurodevelopment Clinical Research Intern

Internship and Organization Description:  

The UVA Brain Institute is seeking an undergraduate intern to support neurodevelopment clinical research program activities. The purpose of this internship is to introduce undergraduate students to the field of clinical research and provide a working knowledge of the proper conduct of pediatric neuroscience/neurodevelopment clinical research.
   
Interns will perform CRC entry level tasks that may include research protocol training, database training/data entry, case report form creation/completion, subject screening, and completion of training for shipping biologic specimens. Other opportunities may include observational experiences, and learning a broad overview of clinical research.
   
The Brain Institute was established in 2016 to create a network of closely interacting basic, translational, data and clinical neuroscientists at multiple schools at UVA to address key problems in neuroscience for the benefit of the society. We foster high-impact collaboration across Grounds between basic and clinical scientists through collaborative projects, training programs, and infrastructure to allow a translational approach and an accelerated bench to bedside transition for potential treatments.

Duties:  

• Data abstraction using the electronic patient medical record system
• Redaction of PHI and electronic file management
• Screen for potential study participants
• Interact with participants for the collection of research data
• Obtain IATA Certification and assist with biospecimen collection/processing
• Data entry utilizing various Electronic Data Capture (EDC) Systems

Qualifications:  

• 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate student enrolled full-time at UVA
• Meet the health, age, academic, security, and/or related internship criteria of UVA Health

For this internship, what level of experience is needed?

Schedule:  

All hours must be completed within the traditional work week (M-F; 8am-5pm). Specific hours can be mutually determined by student and supervisor.
