Communications Intern
Purpose: The Communications Intern will support staff with the various aspects of external and internal communications including brainstorming social media posts, assisting with design work, and collaborating with organization departments to publish blog content. The Communications Intern can expect to gain introductory experience in marketing, graphic design, content creation, blogging, and digital media strategy.
Location: Remote/Hybrid- Please note that our internship roles are remote/hybrid for our service regions of Austin, Houston, and Dallas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Update Girls Empowerment Network’s content calendar on Asana.
- Collaborate with agency’s departments to meet social media publishing deadlines and content strategy goals.
- Assist with researching, creating, and publishing social media content relevant to agency and girls’ issues.
- Collaborate with communications team to produce quality content for social media channels, blogs, and email newsletters including writing, videos, graphics, photography etc.
- Attend communications meeting bi-weekly to capture projects, team notes, and support collaborative projects.
- Track analytics across platforms to assess impact, activity, and engagement online.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Reports to: Marketing & Communications Manager
Length of Appointment: Academic Year (August/September 2026 through May 2027)
Time Commitment: Minimum 10 hours/week; maximum 25 hours/week. A few evening and weekend hours may be required.
Compensation: Stipend between $500-$1,000 for the year. Interns will receive between $250-$500 in December 2026 and between $250-$500 in May 2027. College credit is also available in addition to the stipend.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Applicants must be professional, creative, team-oriented self-starters who have an eye for detail and a positive attitude.
- Must be committed to the goals/mission of Girls Empowerment Network and social justice.
- Must possess excellent research, writing, editing, and oral communications skills.
- Spanish bilingual is preferred but not required.
- Previous communications, social media, design, community outreach, or nonprofit experience is a plus, but not required.
- Experience using: Canva, Asana, Adobe Suite is a plus but not required
