Afterschool Program Assistant - Bilingual Spanish

An Afterschool Program Assistant supports the daily operations of youth programs by supervising children, facilitating enrichment activities, and assisting with homework. Key responsibilities include ensuring safety, managing student behavior and maintaining a positive, organized environment for students.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Supervision & Safety: Monitor children to ensure a safe, nurturing environment during indoor and outdoor activities.
- Activity Facilitation: Assist in planning and implementing educational, recreational, and artistic activities.
- Academic Support: Assist students with homework, tutoring, and educational projects.
- Operational Support: Handle daily tasks such as student check-in/check-out, snack distribution, and setting up/cleaning up activity spaces.
- Communication:
- Maintain open communication with parents, school personnel and site coordinators regarding student behavior and needs.
- Behavior Management: Guide student behavior and conflict resolution, acting as a positive role model.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience working with children (ages 4–14) is typically required.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is generally required, with college coursework in education or child development (preferred).
- Bilingual: Spanish required
- Certifications: Preferred but not required valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Skills: Ability to work effectively with students, excellent communication skills, and ability to work in a team setting.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, walk, and participate in physical activities with children.
Working Conditions
- Hours: Part-time, operating in the afternoon (e.g., 2:45–6:00 p.m.)
- Environment: Both indoor and outdoor, including lunchroom, gymnasiums, and playgrounds
