Student Assistants for Campus Event

Job Title: Student Assistants – Video Games and Digital Media Arts Series

Department: Film Studies and Production / Journalism and Media Studies

Position Type: Student Employment (On-Campus)

Compensation: $20.00 / hour

Duration: September – November 2026 (with prep starting late August)

Work Hours: Part-time (Hours vary by role, 4–10 hours/week)

JOB OVERVIEW

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Film Studies and Production program and the Journalism and Media Studies program at Oakland University are seeking motivated, reliable student workers to assist with our upcoming fall campus event series: "Play/Create/Critique: Video Games and Digital Media Arts at OU." 


 

This collaborative project celebrates OU's newly launched Video Game Studies minor. The series explores how artificial intelligence (AI) is shaping the future of digital media production, video game creation, creative labor, and industry ethics. 


 

We are hiring for three distinct roles. Students may indicate their preference for one or multiple roles in their application.

AVAILABLE ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Confessional Booth & Event Assistant 

• Schedule: September 14 – September 18, 2026 (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM daily). Must also be available for brief setup/takedown shifts and a 2-hour shift on October 30 (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM) for the Gaming Mixer.

• Location: Oakland Center (OC) Living Wall Lounge & Grizz Den

• Duties: Set up, monitor, and manage equipment for a reality-TV style "confessional booth" video camera station. Guide campus participants through question prompts regarding AI and gaming, troubleshoot basic equipment issues, and maintain crowd flow. Provide logistical support to faculty during the October 30 gaming mixer.


 

2. Digital Video Editor

• Schedule: Flexible hours (Estimated 10 hours total, primarily in late September to early October).

• Duties: Review, log, and edit recorded interview footage from the video confessional booth. Create a polished, engaging "supercut" highlight video. The final product will be screened at public events on campus and uploaded to the Film program's official YouTube channel.


 

3. Creation Workshop Teaching Assistants 

• Schedule: Saturday mornings from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on the following specific dates:

  - September 26: Vibe Coding Workshop

  - October 3: Motion Capture Workshop

  - October 17: Sound Design Workshop

  *(Requires an additional 1–2 hours per session for prep and cleanup).*

• Location: Varner Hall Media Production Studio / Lab

• Duties: Assist faculty facilitators in running hands-on creative labs. TAs will help guide workshop participants (OU students, faculty, and local high school students) through interactive exercises using AI tools, natural language prompting, motion capture assets, and sound editing workflows.

QUALIFICATIONS

----------------------------------------------------------------------

• Must be a currently enrolled student at Oakland University in good academic standing.

• Preference is given to students majoring or minoring in Film Studies and Production, Journalism and Media Studies, or Video Game Studies.

• For Video Editor: Demonstrated proficiency with digital video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro) is required.

• For Workshop TAs: Familiarity with basic media production environments or a strong interest/background in generative AI tools (such as motion capture apps, AI sound generators, or natural language prompting).

• Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills. 

• Punctuality and professionalism when representing the department at public-facing events.
