Digital Forensic Technician

An employee in this class is responsible for identifying and extracting data from digital devices in support of investigations performed by law enforcement staff. Duties include identification, extraction and recovery of digital evidence from a variety of electronic devices and disseminating data to appropriate staff conducting criminal investigations in the Sheriff’s Office. This position participates in an evidentiary chain of custody process and may testify in court as to the process’ integrity. Data and digital evidence extracted from electronic devices is critical to criminal investigations and involves sensitive subject matter. This work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):

• Associate’s degree in computer science, cyber security, forensic analysis, law enforcement or other related degree AND one (1) year full-time, paid, verifiable experience in a position with responsibility for compiling, recovering and preserving digital evidence; OR four (4) years full-time, paid, verifiable experience in a licensed law enforcement role, with responsibility for compiling, recovering and preserving digital evidence.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
