Design Assistant

Jump Design Group | New York, NY

Jump Design Group captures women's runway trends and delivers them to retail at the pace the market demands, combining an in-house design and technical studio, fast-turn domestic manufacturing, and a global sourcing network. Our portfolio spans dresses, sportswear, evening, social, junior, and contemporary categories across owned, licensed, and private-label brands (including Jump Apparel, bebe, Susana Monaco, Isaac Mizrahi, Oleg Cassini, and Tiana B) designed for distribution from off-price to high-end retail.

We're looking for Design Assistants (1–3 years of experience) to join our Dresses & Sportswear design team. This role supports multiple designers across seasonal concepting, CAD development, and sample execution, spanning both domestic and imported product.

The ideal candidate is exceptionally organized, creatively driven, and detail-oriented; someone who thrives in a fast-turn environment and can juggle priorities across several designers while keeping the development process running smoothly from sketch through sample.

Responsibilities

  • Support multiple designers across Dresses & Sportswear in developing seasonal concepts, key items, color stories, and trend direction.
  • Set up and maintain styles in PLM, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information throughout development.
  • Organize and maintain FDS (fabric development sheets) and the fabric library.
  • Sketch detailed flats and CADs, and create presentation boards for line reviews and buyer meetings.
  • Build and update tech packs, including sketches, callouts, trims, and fabric information.
  • Track samples and coordinate development across both domestic and imported product.
  • Organize racks and design areas, prepare for fittings, take clear notes, and update comments.
  • Conduct trend, market, and competitive research across contemporary, occasion, and sportswear categories.
  • Collaborate with production and tech design from development through production for all design approvals.

Required Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in women's apparel design, ideally with exposure to dresses, sportswear, or both.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Working knowledge of PLM systems, including style setup and maintenance.
  • Understanding of garment construction, fit, and fabrications across woven, knit, and novelty categories.
  • Experience with both domestic and imported product development a plus.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to support multiple designers and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Portfolio Required

Applications without a portfolio (digital or PDF) will not be considered.
