Public Policy and Governance Internship

The Internet Security Alliance (ISA) is now accepting applications for its Fall 2026 Public Policy and Governance Internship Program. We are seeking two to three highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students for a 6-to-12-month commitment (starting in Aug/Sept of 2026, with a flexible end date), working 15-20 hours per week. This internship can be in-person (Arlington, VA), hybrid, or remote depending on the applicant's preference. This is an ideal opportunity for advanced students interested in cybersecurity policy, legislative affairs, and strategic communications.

Please note: This is not a technical internship. The focus is on public policy advocacy and communications, particularly regarding cybersecurity.

Program Overview

ISA interns work closely with our policy and communications team to support our mission of recognizing cybersecurity as an economic issue and shaping effective public policy to build a sustainable cybersecurity system. Interns will gain hands-on experience in federal cybersecurity policy, strategic messaging, and advocacy on Capitol Hill with Congress and the Executive Branch.

Internships are available in a 100% virtual format or through a hybrid model that includes in-person participation at ISA’s office in Arlington, VA. Interns are expected to dedicate 15–20 hours per week and will receive a monthly stipend of $1,000.

Internship Responsibilities

  • Help advance ISA’s AI program strategy by supporting the development of a cross-sector AI policy agenda and contributing to a CISO-driven framework for addressing AI cybersecurity challenges across enterprise and public policy.
  • Assist in advocacy efforts directed at Members of Congress and federal agencies.
  • Draft policy-focused communications, including letters, hearing questions, blog posts, and social media content.
  • Support ISA’s messaging strategy tailored to specific policymakers, media platforms, and industry stakeholders.
  • Analyze and implement policy concepts drawn from ISA’s Director's Handbook on Cyber-Risk Oversight (5th edition, 2026)
  • Contribute to ISA’s work on corporate cyber risk management and public-private sector collaboration.
