Two Questions to Ask Yourself Before Applying...

When you interview with SCI’s Test Development Group, we will ask you two very important questions:

  1. Why did you want to study Engineering in college?
  2. If you could choose anything, what would you want to do in your Professional Engineering Career?

Our Co-Op program is intentionally geared to help you discover, refine, and establish those answers. We don't want you just doing busywork—we want to help you grow into a highly versatile, well-rounded engineer through real-world, hands-on experience.

About the Team & Environment

For over 60 years, SCI Technology’s Defense & Aerospace Division (a Sanmina company) has been a leading provider of high-reliability defense and aerospace electronics. From tactical communications to airborne information processing, our mission-critical systems keep warfighters connected and protected.

Based in Huntsville, Alabama, our Test Development Engineering Group combines the fast-paced, high-creativity atmosphere of a startup with the rock-solid stability and resources of a Fortune-500 company. We work with elite technology partners to rapidly design, build, and validate test solutions for bleeding-edge systems operating in airborne, land, and subsea environments.

The Role: What You Will Do

As a member of our cross-functional team of Electro-mechanical Hardware and Software Test Engineers, you will develop features and functionality across a broad spectrum of hardware and software testing systems.

Depending on your academic focus and personal interests, your responsibilities will include:

  • Electrical Design: Designing electrical Printed Wire Assemblies (PWAs) for test set and fixture integration.
  • Mechanical & Mechatronic Design: Designing and modeling custom mechanical test sets and fixtures.
  • Software Development: Constructing, programming, and integrating automated test software utilizing Python or NI's LabVIEW & TestStand Software Suite.
  • Prototyping & Build: Fabricating, soldering, and assembling physical test set hardware.
  • Validation & Debugging: Systematically debugging electronic circuits and validating test platforms to ensure flight-readiness.
  • Documentation: Gathering test requirements and authoring engineering documentation using MS Office.

Skills You Will Learn & Enhance

This is a highly immersive role where you will master industry-standard tools and methodologies:

  • Hardware Design: Altium Circuit Board Design & SolidWorks 3D Modeling.
  • Test Automation: Test Set Programming utilizing NI LabVIEW & TestStand.
  • Advanced Fabrication: 3D Printing, CNC machining centers, and precision machine shop operations.
  • Lab Instrument Competency: Data acquisition utilizing automated test & measurement equipment.
  • Practical Electronics: Soldering, electronic assembly, and hardware debugging.

Candidate Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering (with a Mechatronics concentration).
