Afternoon Program Instructor
Durham Charter School is seeking reliable, energetic, and engaging individuals to assist with our afternoon extended day program. This is a paid, part-time position ideal for university students looking for valuable, hands-on experience in education, youth development, or childcare.
Instructors will primarily supervise and lead enrichment activities for students in Grades K-1 on standard instructional days (Monday-Friday), and Grades K-2 on half-day Wednesdays.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with homework: Provide patient academic support and guidance to early elementary students during their homework time.
- Supervise students: Manage students during structured afternoon play, snack transitions, and academic enrichment time.
- Lead safe activities: Maintain a positive, welcoming environment for early elementary scholars.
- Manage transitions: Direct students efficiently, particularly during early-release Wednesday schedules.
Requirements
- Background check: Must successfully clear a comprehensive criminal background check prior to the August 11th start date.
- Commitment: Availability to work the designated afternoon shifts consistently throughout the academic year.
- Experience: Prior experience working with school-aged children or early childhood education is preferred.
