Job Description:
The Marketing & Communications intern will work directly with FMoPA's Director of Operations & Marketing to support the museum's outreach, social media presence and community engagement. Throughout all three phases, the intern will contribute to ongoing marketing tasks including assisting with social media content for Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, and keeping local online community calendars updated with FMoPA's event schedule. The Director of Operations & Marketing leads all marketing efforts — the intern plays an active and meaningful supporting role, with responsibilities deepening progressively as they become more familiar with FMoPA's voice, audience and programming.
Part I — Learning & Foundation (50 hrs):
The intern gets oriented with FMoPA's brand, tone and marketing channels. Under close guidance from the Director of Operations & Marketing, they begin contributing ideas and drafts for social media posts highlighting current exhibitions, events and photography trends, and assist with updating community calendars. They are introduced to flyer design and print materials for the museum lobby and community distribution, and attend their first events to observe and begin assisting with b-roll footage capture of talks, classes and openings. They support general marketing and communications tasks as needed.
Deliverable: initial social media content drafts and contributions, community calendar updates, and a first set of event photos or footage.
Part II — Growing Independence (50 hrs):
The intern takes on a more active role in supporting social media content creation, contributing trend-aware and audience-specific post ideas and drafts with increasing confidence. Under the direction of the Director of Operations & Marketing, they assist with flyer design and personally distribute print materials to local Ybor City and Tampa businesses, coffee shops and community hubs to boost event awareness. They manage community calendar updates with less supervision and assist with capturing b-roll footage at events, contributing to a growing library of content for use in promotions and grant applications. They continue to support general marketing tasks.
Deliverable: a set of flyer and print material contributions, a documented flyer distribution outreach list, and a growing portfolio of social media content drafts and event footage.
Part III — Full Contribution (50 hrs):
The intern contributes meaningfully across all marketing and communications areas, working alongside the Director of Operations & Marketing with a high degree of confidence and initiative. They regularly contribute social media content drafts and ideas across platforms, manage community calendar updates, assist with event promotion and help produce and organize event footage. They apply what they have learned throughout the internship to deliver polished, on-brand content that supports FMoPA's visibility in the Tampa Bay community, always under the guidance and final approval of the Director. They continue to support the team as needed.
Deliverable: an organized library of event footage, a portfolio of social media content contributions, and a final summary report of marketing work completed during the internship.
