Student Assistant – Alumni Relations & UA Foundation

 

Department: Office of Alumni Relations & The University of Akron Foundation
Pay Rate: $12.00/hour
Hours: Approximately 10–15 hours per week for roughly 6 weeks

Start Date: August 3, 2026

 

Position Summary

The Office of Alumni Relations and The University of Akron Foundation are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student assistant to help support two significant institutional milestones: the Alumni Association's 150th Anniversary and the Foundation's 60th Anniversary.

 

This project-based position offers an opportunity to research University history, uncover engaging stories, and help share them through digital communications. The student assistant will play an important role in developing content that celebrates the University's alumni, traditions, and philanthropic impact.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct historical research using University archives, publications, and other resources to identify stories, milestones, and notable alumni.
  • Organize and summarize research findings for future use.
  • Write engaging content for social media, the Alumni website, and other digital communications.
  • Create graphics and other visual content to accompany written stories.
  • Assist with developing anniversary-related content calendars and campaigns.
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail when working with historical information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Experience creating digital or social media content.
  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva or similar design software preferred).
  • Interest in storytelling, communications, marketing, history, or higher education is preferred.
