Job Type: Full-Time (100% Onsite)
Shift: 7 PM to 7 AM (12-hour shifts, rotating every other week; some weekend work with every other weekend off; 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next)
Pay: $23.50/hr
Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Quality Assurance Lab Technician to join in Wyandotte, MI. This role involves providing laboratory testing and quality support for our Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform physical, chemical, and mechanical testing on in-process and finished TPU products according to established testing plans and methods.
- Conduct Melt Flow Index (MFI), physical, and chemical testing on samples from production.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including extruders and injection molding equipment for test specimen preparation.
- Accurately record, review, and enter test results into electronic systems such as SAP, LIMS, or other laboratory databases.
- Release laboratory data promptly to support manufacturing operations.
- Conduct routine equipment checks, calibration verification, and preventative maintenance activities.
- Investigate, document, and escalate out-of-specification results per established procedures.
- Support production teams in resolving quality-related issues.
- Assist with updates to laboratory documentation, continuous improvement activities, and process standardization efforts.
- Evaluate color and appearance properties using laboratory instrumentation, including spectrophotometers.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization according to established standards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of HS Diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of manufacturing, quality, or laboratory experience.
- Basic understanding of chemistry, mathematics, and statistical concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to learn laboratory testing methods, equipment operation, and quality systems.
Working Conditions:
- Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating day and night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent walking, standing, and stair climbing between laboratory and manufacturing areas.
- Work primarily in laboratory and pilot-scale manufacturing environments with potential exposure to chemicals, heat, noise, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Visual ability to read, interpret, and document laboratory data and test results.
