Junior MEP Engineer
Think in Generations, Not Days. Engineer the Climate Fight with SETTY.
Position: Junior MEP / Energy Engineer, exp. 0-2 years.
Locations: DC/VA/ATL/NY
Compensation: 60-75k/yr
Why What We Do Matters
Buildings are responsible for nearly 40% of global carbon emissions. They aren't just walls and windows; they are living, breathing, complex ecosystems. If we want to solve the climate crisis, we have to re-engineer how buildings consume energy, manage air quality, and interact with the environment. Data Centers will push that consumption number past 50% in the coming years.
At SETTY, we tackle the most complex, high-performance building systems in the country. From massive net-zero school campuses and advanced healthcare facilities to critical federal infrastructure, we design systems that drastically reduce carbon footprints. We don’t just follow efficiency standards—through our deeply rooted leadership within ASHRAE, we help write the national benchmarks for indoor air quality and sustainability.
As a Junior Engineer here, you won’t be doing low-stakes, repetitive design work. You will be engineering real, measurable carbon reduction into the built environment. You must navigate working with other engineers, going to the field for construction visits and managing client expectations.
The Impact You Will Make
Decarbonize the Built Environment: Design high-performance HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP/FP) systems that actively push the boundaries of energy efficiency.
Bridge Design and Technology: Utilize advanced energy modeling, Autodesk Revit (BIM), and cutting-edge digital-twin tech to identify and eliminate deep energy waste where others miss it.
Ensure Public Health & Safety: Participate in designing advanced indoor air quality (IAQ) and resilient infrastructure that protects communities and the environment.
Learn Through Action: Move beyond theoretical desk work. You will get "boots-on-the-ground" exposure to total building commissioning, seeing how your designs perform in the real world.
Who You Are
Driven by Purpose: You see climate change as an urgent problem that requires analytical, bold engineering solutions. You want your daily work to align with your values. You don't want to keep complaining but be part of the solution.
You are an engineer who is in this field to be a builder, you are not in it for glory or political gain. You don't want to sit behind a desk all day but watch your designs get built in the real world and interact with people.
The Emerging Expert: You hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering. Passing the FE exam (EIT status) or having exposure to ASHRAE/LEED concepts is highly valued but not a must.
A Systems Thinker: You are fascinated by how complex mechanical and electrical components integrate to form a highly efficient, cohesive structure.
Curious and Growth-Oriented: You want to lean into next-gen building sciences, learn from industry-leading mentors, and fast-track your path to a P.E. license.
The SETTY Culture
We offer the scale and impact of a major national firm (with 13+ offices across the U.S. and internationally) combined with the tight-knit, collaborative feel of a practice where your voice is actually heard. We heavily support non-profit organizations, continuous technical training, and a hybrid, flexible work environment.
"We are building high-performance teams to build high-performance infrastructure. If you want to build a lasting legacy, let's engineer it together."
— Raj Setty, P.E., CxA, LEED, ASHRAE TC 9.7 Chair, TC 9.13 Space Station Subcommittee
