Part-time Development Intern
Brooklyn Youth Chorus is seeking a Part-time Development Intern to support its fundraising department during an exciting period of organizational growth. This internship is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in nonprofit fundraising, arts administration, communications, and project management to gain hands-on experience across a range of development functions.
The Development Intern will support the Development team with donor communications, database management, grant administration, mailings, research, and special events. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, curious, a good communicator, and eager to learn about the many moving pieces that make a nonprofit fundraising department successful.
Reporting Relationships
The Development Intern reports to the Director of Development and works closely with members of the Development team.
Responsibilities
The Development Intern will support the Development team in the following areas:
Individual Giving & Donor Communications
- Assist with processing donations and preparing acknowledgement letters.
- Support donor mailings, annual appeal materials, and other fundraising communications.
- Assist with proofreading and editing donor-facing materials.
- Help prepare materials for individual donor cultivation and stewardship.
- Conduct donor and prospect research as needed.
Grant Administration & Institutional Giving
- Provide administrative support for grant applications, reports, and related materials.
- Assist with gathering and organizing information for corporate, foundation, and government funders.
- Help maintain grant and reporting calendars.
- Support preparation of stewardship materials and acknowledgements for institutional donors.
Database Management
- Update and maintain donor and prospect records in Salesforce.
- Assist with data entry, list preparation, and record clean-up.
- Help track donor communications, gifts, and other relevant development activity.
- Support database needs for annual appeal, gala, and other key fundraising campaigns, including pulling reports and mailing lists.
Board & Committee Support
- Assist with board and committee materials as needed.
- Support preparation of materials connected to trustee engagement and stewardship.
Events & Production Support
- Provide administrative and logistical support for various development and community events, including galas, fundraising events, cultivation events, stewardship events, and self-produced concerts.
- Assist with event preparation, guest materials, tracking, and follow-up.
- Support production-related planning needs, including timelines, budgeting support, roles and responsibilities, staff expectations, and user/guest experience.
Administrative Support
- Proofread and edit institutional and departmental documents.
- Schedule and support development-related meetings as needed.
- Assist with organizing files, tracking projects, and maintaining department systems.
- Support general administrative projects for the Development team.
- Scan, distribute, and file incoming mail.

Qualifications
- Interest in nonprofit fundraising, arts administration, music, education, or the performing arts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading ability.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects.
- Comfortable working independently and asking questions when needed.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite required.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Acrobat, Salesforce, or other database systems is a plus, but not required.
- Prior internship, volunteer, or administrative experience helpful but not required.
Schedule & Compensation
This is a part-time internship 14-16 hours (2-3 days a week) for the fall of 2026, with additional hours for events as needed. There is a possibility for extension/advancement in January 2027. Schedule to be determined. Compensation is $20/hr.

Brooklyn Youth Chorus is a Grammy award-winning city-wide music education and vocal performance program for children ages 5–18 of all levels of experience. As a collective of young singers and vocal ensembles, Brooklyn Youth Chorus is reimagining choral music performance through artistic innovation, collaboration, and an incredibly versatile range and repertoire.
The Chorus’s multi-level training program draws students from across the five boroughs and combines intensive voice training and musicianship study with exceptional performance experiences. Children of diverse backgrounds come to the Chorus to share their love of singing, make new friends, and achieve and surpass their musical goals.
