District Office Intern
About the Program
The office of Representative Carlos A. Giménez (FL-28) is seeking motivated and detail-oriented college students to join our District Office internship program. This internship offers hands-on experience in constituent services, federal government operations, and community engagement, providing valuable insight into how a congressional district office serves its community.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Currently enrolled as a college student (undergraduate or graduate) at an accredited institution
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 (or as required by school for internship credit)
- Able to commit to a minimum of 10–15 hours per week for part-time, or 30+ hours per week for full-time
- Resident of Florida's 28th Congressional District preferred, but not required
Skills We're Looking For
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Professional phone etiquette and customer service mindset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort learning new software/databases
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive/confidential information
- Time management and ability to multitask in a fast-paced office
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Interest in public policy, government, political science, or communications a plus
Expected Responsibilities
- Constituent Services: Assist constituents with casework involving federal agencies (Social Security Administration, VA, IRS, USCIS/immigration, Medicare, etc.), including intake, follow-up, and status updates
- Front Office Support: Answer and direct incoming phone calls, greet and assist office visitors, and manage general front-desk duties
- Correspondence: Help draft constituent response letters, memos, and other written communications under staff supervision
- Research: Research local, state, and federal policy issues affecting the district and prepare summaries for staff
- Community Outreach: Support planning and staffing of town halls, community events, and outreach initiatives; may include representing the office at local events
- Administrative Support: Maintain and organize constituent case files and databases, process mail, and assist with other clerical tasks as needed
- Special Projects: Assist with district-specific projects as assigned, which may include data entry, event coordination, or issue-area research
Schedule
- Full-time and part-time positions available
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate class schedules
- Unpaid position; students are encouraged to inquire with their institution about academic credit
