The U.S. Navy is seeking licensed, highly skilled Podiatrists (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) to serve as commissioned Officers in the Medical Service Corps. In this role, you will provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for the foot, ankle, and lower extremities of Sailors, Marines, operational forces, and their families.

Navy Podiatrists practice medicine in its purest form. You will focus entirely on patient outcomes, clinical excellence, and readiness, free from the administrative burdens of insurance approvals, billing codes, overhead costs, and productivity quotas.

Core Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive Clinical Care: Diagnose, treat, and prevent a wide range of lower extremity disorders, structural deformities, and chronic conditions.
  • Advanced Reconstruction Surgery: Perform full-scope elective and reconstructive podiatric surgical procedures on the foot and ankle.
  • Trauma & Sports Medicine: Manage acute sports injuries, training-related trauma, and combat-related injuries utilizing advanced modalities, orthotics, and immobilization.
  • Operational Readiness: Evaluate and optimize the lower extremity health of active-duty personnel to ensure global deployment readiness.
  • Collaborative Medicine: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and primary care providers.
  • Global Humanitarian Missions: Deploy aboard hospital ships (USNS Mercy/Comfort) or to remote regions to provide disaster relief and medical aid.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited college of podiatric medicine.
  • Residency: Completion of a formal podiatric surgical residency program (PMSR/REAR).
  • Licensure: Current, valid, and unrestricted license to practice podiatry in any U.S. state, territory, or Washington, D.C.
  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Age & Medical: Ability to meet Navy physical, medical, and security clearance standards. (Maximum age limits apply; age waivers may be considered for highly experienced candidates).
  • Commitment: Minimum 3-year active-duty service obligation upon commissioning.
