Intervention Specialist in a Montessori School

Middle School (grades 7th & 8th)

 

Work Environment: The Lillian and Betty Ratner  Montessori School, founded in 1963, is a coeducational independent Montessori school for students aged 18 months through 8th Grade. We offer small classes taught by a distinguished faculty and a rich program of academics, athletics and the arts. The school operates on a beautiful 14-acre campus in Pepper Pike, Ohio, a suburb on the east side of Cleveland. Job Description: The Intervention Specialist facilitates academic support, supplements and extends classroom teaching, and works collaboratively to meet the learning needs of students with learning differences and skill gaps by developing strategies for learning, organization, and test-taking. The Intervention Specialist identifies potential learning needs and develops intervention, academic support or behavior plans for student success. As a member of the Learning Support team, the Interventionist participates in public-district-led IEP/ETR meetings, suggests goals for the student, and tracks data for quarterly progress reports required by the Ohio Department of Education.  Maintaining a grade-band case-load (2 - 3 grades), the IS is responsible for serving the needs of students on IEPs, helping to support at-risk students in need of Tier 2 assistance, as well as functioning as a Case Manager for students receiving services from related-service providers (i.e. Speech, Counseling, etc.).  Learning Support is the point of contact for parents and public districts in order to maintain compliance with IDEA and all required documentation, as well as the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship.  The IS is considered to be part of the Learning Support Team, as well as part of the classroom team, making suggestions to classroom teachers for interventions, strategies, supports, and accommodations that can be provided in the classroom.


 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Collaboration with the public district, related-service providers, classroom teachers, and parents, on IEP goals and objectives

•Attendance at IEP/ETR meetings held virtually by the public district, data collection and progress monitoring per IDEA 

• Collect data and observe students to assist with creating behavior plans 

• Set up Ratner Learning Plans (Tier 3 students)  and/or Ratner Support Plans (Tier 2 students)

• Assist with administration of State of Ohio testing and/or MAP testing for Universal Screening and Benchmarking

• Should have experience and training to assist students with executive functioning skills, work completion skills, written expression, reading comprehension strategies, as well as SEL skills. 

*Serve as a consultant to classroom teachers on interventions and strategies for both Tier 3 and Tier 2 students.


 

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a current Ohio teaching license as a K - 12 Intervention Specialist, as well as experience working with grade-school aged students in the role of Intervention Specialist, and experience working with ETR/IEP compliance.  Knowledge of Montessori philosophy and curriculum, as well as the SOR,  is preferred but not required.  Both new graduates and experienced professionals are encouraged to apply.
