Staff Writer Intern
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Staff Writer Intern produces written content exclusively for the Inside The Hashes website — player profiles, event recaps, recruiting articles, NFL Draft breakdowns, and football analysis. You are the written voice of ITH and your work lives permanently on insidethehashes.com.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write player profile articles for NFL players, college prospects, and high school recruits ITH has interviewed
- Produce event recap articles following ITH's coverage — Senior Bowl, Combine, 7v7 events, Media Days
- Cover high school recruiting — commitment announcements, decommitments, signing day breakdowns
- Write Before The NFL companion articles for ITH's signature video series
- Produce weekly football analysis and opinion pieces covering NFL, college, and recruiting
- Draft NFL Draft prospect profiles for players in ITH's interview archive
- Optimize all articles for SEO — proper keywords, meta descriptions, and structure
- Deliver a minimum of 4 published articles per month
QUALIFICATIONS — REQUIRED
- Strong writing skills — clean, engaging, football-knowledgeable prose
- Deep knowledge of football at all levels — NFL, college, and high school recruiting
- Ability to research players and stories thoroughly and accurately
- Basic understanding of SEO — keywords, structure, and searchability
- Self-motivated with consistent output — deadlines are non-negotiable
- Writing portfolio required — published articles, blogs, or personal writing samples
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
- Able to receive academic credit for the internship through your institution
- Strong work ethic, reliable, and deadline-driven
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote setting
- Passionate about football — high school, college, and NFL
- Professional communication skills — Slack and email primarily
- Must download and use Slack and Notion for team communication
QUALIFICATIONS — PREFERRED
- Experience with content management systems — WordPress, Squarespace, or similar
- Knowledge of recruiting databases — 247Sports, On3, Rivals
- Prior sports writing experience at any level
- Currently enrolled in Journalism, Mass Communications, or English program
