Manager, Tile Project Sales & Design

The job consists of meeting with clients and creating Motawi Tile layouts that meet our standards for beauty and timelessness, while meeting (or truthfully, exceeding) customer expectations.

The expected starting salary range is $60,000-$70,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate’s qualifications.

Position Summary:

As a Manager, Tile Project Sales & Design, you play a vital role in transforming client ideas into thoughtfully designed, high-quality tile projects. You are both a creative expert and trusted client partner, guiding projects from concept to completion while upholding Motawi’s commitment to craftsmanship and exceptional service. In addition to your design responsibilities, you are responsible for leading, coaching, and developing your team, driving performance, maintaining accountability, and identifying and addressing challenges that impact your team, department, and overall business success.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design & Sales

  • Design tile layouts for residential and custom applications
  • Manage client relationships and guide design decisions
  • Oversee project scope, quotes, pricing, and order accuracy
  • Drive sales through strong consultation and client experience
  • Navigate challenging customer situations and share updates with the team

 

Project & Production Coordination

  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and expectations
  • Collaborate with production to ensure quality and feasibility
  • Ensure accurate tile counts, specifications, and execution

 

Team Leadership & Management

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop design staff
  • Set clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and team pain points
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and ongoing performance support
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training efforts

 

Operational Leadership

  • Improve processes and workflows for efficiency and accuracy
  • Align team output with company sales and production goals
  • Monitor team performance metrics and project success
  • Maintain/update department materials (including the design studio, web photos, handouts for customers, internal resources, etc.)
  • Monitor and analyze key metrics related to design projects, sales outcomes, and workflow processes, using insights to guide improvements and support business goals.

 

Related Duties:

  • Stay current on industry trends by conducting research and attending relevant events
  • Plan trade shows as needed
  • Support marketing and social media activities as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Hours/Schedule:

Full time 40 hours per week exempt position/Monday – Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM. During onboarding, this position is 100% on-site; after onboarding concludes, a hybrid option may be available. Overnight and weekend hours/travel may be required a few times per year.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience will also be considered
  • 5+ years of experience in interior design, or a related custom product/design environment
  • Proven success in a client-facing sales or design consultation role
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel -advanced formulas, Outlook email and calendar)
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator or other design software
  • Aptitude for leadership
  • Strong project‑management abilities, including handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines
  • Effective communicator with superb interpersonal skills, a professional, client‑focused approach
  • Collaborative team member with problem‑solving skills and a positive, solutions‑focused mindset
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and adaptable in a dynamic work environment

 

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related discipline
  • Previous leadership or team management experience
  • Proficient in QuickBooks
