Job Summary:
The Pre-K Teacher creates an engaging, developmentally appropriate learning environment that nurtures each child’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical growth. The teacher builds strong, collaborative relationships with students, families, and colleagues while implementing high-quality instruction aligned with individual needs and program standards. This role fosters curiosity, independence, and foundational skills that prepare children for long-tern academic success.
Essential Functions (May include, but not limited to):
1. Designs and delivers lesson plans that incorporate required Pre-K activities and support whole child development.
2. Communicates regularly with parents, guardians, and administrators to address academic or behavioral concerns and support student progress.
3. Maintains a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment at all times.
4. Adapts curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of each student through individualized and small-group instruction.
5. Participates in required training and applies new knowledge to classroom practices.
6. Selects developmentally appropriate field trips and ensures proper supervision of all participants.
7. Supervises students during classroom and non-classroom activities throughout the school day.
8. Provides direction and oversight to paraprofessionals and classroom volunteers.
9. Follows all program requirements related to food service and nutrition.
10. Conducts screenings, ongoing assessments, and accurately enters required data for each child.
11. Holds conferences and uses multiple communication methods to share student progress and explain program expectations.
12. Completes two educational home visits annually for each enrolled child.
13. Conducts two on-site conferences annually with each family.
14. Identifies student needs and collaborates with staff to address health, behavioral, and learning concerns.
15. Ensures daily practice of healthy habits, including oral hygiene routines.
16. Encourages and supports parent involvement in all aspects of the program.
17. Adheres to all LARA child card licensing regulations.
18. Performs other duties as assigned allowable in the grant.

Qualifications:
Education:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate required. Early Childhood Education (ZA), Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS), Lower Elementary Education, PK-3 (ZO), or Early Childhood General and Special Education, Birth-K (ZN) endorsement required. Bachelors degree in Early Childhood or Childhood Development is preferred.
Skills:
Ability to work cooperatively on a teaching team. Ability to communicate with students effectively through speaking, reading, and writing as appropriate. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Internet, Email, and On-Line grading programs. Knowledge of common assessments and teaching methods.
Other Requirements:
Must comply with the Student Safety Initiative Legislation, as amended. Newly hired staff are required to successfully complete the following pre-employment screenings: Criminal background check, including national and local clearance.
