Preschool Teacher Assistant

Teacher Assistant, Part-Time

Two Year Old Classroom, three mornings a week

As a Teacher’s Assistant you will partner with the Lead Teachers to foster a happy, healthy, safe, and stimulating environment while following SLC’s mission and philosophy and adhering to the policies and procedures outlined in the Staff Handbook. Your primary responsibilities will include, but not limited to: 

  • Assist Lead Teacher’s with execution of daily curriculum according to board approved curriculum. 
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet students' varying needs, development and interest. 
  • Promote appropriate age, anti-bias development of creativity, self-confidence, self-regulation, social interaction skills, and small and gross motor coordination. 
  • Assist in ensuring a smooth routine by washing tables, preparing snack, serving and washing utensils, set up centers within the classroom, etc. 
  • Model problem solving and coach conflict resolution skills. 
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day as needed. 
  • Expect to be sitting on the floor and/or standing 90% of the time and remain attentive to children by engaging them at eye level. 
  • Resolve conflict or concern within team by speaking directly to teaching team members. Actively communicate with the Executive Director and Leadership team as needed. 
  • Seek objective feedback and guidance from co-teaching team, peers, and Director. 

Requirements: 

  • Must have at least 6 semester hours in Early Childhood Education or working toward this requirement; or early childhood classroom experience.
  • Must have sufficient mobility and strength to be able to lift a 40-pound child off the floor/ground, be able to sit on the floor at eye level with the children, and be able to quickly reach an endangered or hurt child. 
  • Participate in at least 15 hours of approved in-service activities per year. 
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence. 
  • Prior classroom experience is preferred.
