Child Care Aide

Position Purpose:

The Aide is responsible for supporting the overall care, supervision, and organization of classrooms and common areas throughout the center. This role helps ensure that children across age groups are cared for in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. The Aide assists teaching teams with daily routines, classroom activities, and supervision while maintaining a clean and engaging learning environment. The Aide works in partnership with teachers, parents, and program leadership to promote each child’s growth, safety, and well-being.

Daily Duties and Responsibilities:

Health, Safety & Supervision

• Maintain active supervision of children at all times, ensuring their safety indoors and outdoors.
• Support staff in conducting and documenting daily health checks upon arrival.
• Follow all diapering, toileting, handwashing, and sanitizing procedures per licensing and center policies.
• Sanitize toys, materials, and surfaces daily (or as needed throughout the day).
• Adhere to all state licensing regulations, safety standards, and emergency procedures.

Care Routines

• Assist with diapering and toileting routines using appropriate sanitary guidelines.
• Support children in learning hygiene routines through respectful and encouraging methods.
• Monitor and support individual eating and sleeping routines as directed by the classroom teaching team.
• Guide children through daily transitions using clear, consistent communication and structure.
• Document nap, toileting, and meal routines using Brightwheel or other center systems, as directed.

Development & Learning

• Assist teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and classroom activities.
• Support the development of self-help skills such as handwashing, dressing, and cleaning up.
• Encourage peer interaction, verbal expression, and problem-solving through structured and unstructured play.
• Use positive behavior guidance and redirection to support emotional regulation and social development.

Documentation & Communication

• Assist with completing daily reports (meals, naps, toileting, activities, mood, etc.) using Brightwheel.
• Observe and share developmental milestones and behaviors with teaching staff.
• Communicate with families in a professional and respectful manner during drop-off and pick-up, deferring detailed updates to the Lead Teacher.
• Notify Program Directors of any concerns related to child development, behavior, or health.

Classroom Environment

• Help set up and maintain clean, organized, and engaging classroom environments that support exploration and learning.
• Ensure classroom routines are predictable and supportive of children’s needs.
• Foster a calm, positive atmosphere through tone, expectations, and interactions.

Team Collaboration

• Work in partnership with teaching teams to maintain consistent classroom flow and high-quality care.
• Take direction from Lead and Assistant Teachers and support their classroom goals.
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as scheduled.
• Communicate openly and respectfully with colleagues and leadership regarding classroom or center needs.

• Arrive on time and follow the assigned schedule.
• Wear appropriate, professional attire (per the staff dress code).
• Use respectful language and maintain a positive attitude in all interactions.
• Follow all center policies, procedures, and licensing requirements.
• Demonstrate flexibility and a team-oriented mindset.
• Maintain confidentiality of all child and family information.
• Work hours are subject to change at the discretion of leadership in order to meet the needs of the center and the families we serve. Flexibility in scheduling is expected and appreciated.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift/carry children up to 40 pounds.
• Able to bend, kneel, sit on the floor, and stand for extended periods.
• Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies or behavioral challenges.
• Participate in both indoor and outdoor activities throughout the day.

Qualifications:

Required Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education

• Enrollment in or completion of Early Childhood Education or child related courses

Required Experience

• At least 2 years of experience in a licensed child care setting.

Certifications

• Current CPR and Pediatric First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Completion of all state-mandated health and safety training.
• Required to obtain and provide all necessary background clearances, including but not limited to criminal history, child abuse, and FBI fingerprint clearances, prior to employment.
