Environmental Science Instructor
Napa Valley College is currently searching for a part-time, hourly Environmental Science Instructor for the Fall 2026 semester.
The starting salary range is $79.40-$85.87/classroom hour, with future steps up to $100.46/classroom hour. Placement is based on verified previous college teaching or counseling experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
Instructors appointed to the part-time temporary pool may be assigned to teach part-time, temporary, and/or substitute courses within the department as needed. Assignments may vary in length and are not guaranteed. The assigned teaching responsibility is Environmental Science within the Department of Earth Sciences.
- Teach undergraduate Environmental Science course in accordance with the approved curriculum, course outlines, and institutional policies.
- Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, laboratory activities, and instruction as appropriate to the course.
- Develop and assess student learning through formative and summative evaluation methods.
- Maintain regular office hours to provide academic support and guidance to students.
- Use the college’s learning management system to post course materials, communicate with students, and submit grades.
- Participation in departmental and college professional activities and/or committees is welcomed, but not required
- Adhere to college policies regarding attendance, grading, academic integrity, and safety, including laboratory and field safety protocols.
- Maintaining currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility
- Collaborate with department faculty and staff as needed to support program and institutional goals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
Master's in earth sciences, geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, or paleontology
OR
Bachelor's in geology
AND
Master's in geography, physics, or geochemistry
OR the equivalent.
Desirable Qualification
Instructional experience in a community college.
