DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES

TITLE: Director of Special Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a Master’s Degree
  2. Endorsement as Director of Special Services according to Idaho State Certification requirements.
  3. Alternatives to the above qualifications may be determined appropriate by the Board of Trustees

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

 

SUPERVISES: Special Education and Ancillary Personnel

 

JOB GOAL: To provide educational programs for exceptional students 

within the guidelines set forth by the State of Idaho, Department of Education.  This position is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of all provided by the program, in compliance with the rules and regulations established by the State and Federal Government of Education.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  Direct and coordinate specialized educational services to all appropriately identified students with disabilities attending the Kellogg School District.

  Develop, manage, and implement federal and state revenue as well as any special grants designated as financial resources to students with disabilities within the Kellogg School District.

  Ensure the appropriate implementation and management of due process procedures as they pertain to identification, referral, comprehensive evaluation, instructional planning, and review procedure as outlined with I.D.E.A.

Establishes and maintains special classes and services for students with disabilities.

Prepares all program reports required by the State Department of Education.

Assists in recruitment, selection, and placement of special education personnel as well as supervises all special education personnel with building administrators.

Determines the need for new programs and services.

Develops and promotes suitable procedures for screening and diagnosis of student’s problems.

Coordinates procedures for placement, transfer, and termination of students in special education programs.

Develops in-service training programs for special education staff.

Provide instructional and other program personnel supervision and evaluation as specified by the policies established within the Kellogg School District.

 Schedules and assigns psychologists and communication disorders specialists.

Supervise and manage appropriate implementation of record keeping and file management procedures throughout the District as they pertain to those guidelines established within the Family Right to Privacy Act.

Identifies adequate supplies and equipment for special education programs.

Arranges with agencies and other schools for the education of those students with disabilities who cannot be served adequately in the local district.

Evaluates existing programs as to their effectiveness.

Ensure the appropriate coordination and communication between community and state agencies that provide services to students with disabilities.

Preschool Program.

Jointly supervises and coordinates school 504 services with building administrator.

Jointly supervises and coordinates school health service programs.

Facilitate the instructional quality of the Special Services Program ensuring the continued development of appropriate instructional sequences, curriculum development and general professional growth to those personnel with the Program.

Coordinate with program and curriculum in general education.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Salary and work year to be established by the district administration.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Joint Kellogg School District #391 board policy.
