Assistant/Associate Professor

ABOUT NAYANTA UNIVERSITY

Nayanta University, situated in Pune, India, is an ambitious new venture to redefine higher education. Founded by a consortium of visionary industrialists and academic leaders, Nayanta is committed to creating an institution that builds on academic excellence and more. Here, education will be a bridge between disciplines, integrating rigorous scholarship and real-world relevance and a space where the boundaries of thought and practice are challenged.

Anchored in India but with a global perspective, Nayanta seeks to shape well-rounded individuals who understand the complexities of rural and urban India and are prepared to tackle the pressing challenges of today’s world. This is not just a university—it is a movement, and we are looking for faculty ready to be part of this transformative journey.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

At Nayanta, we believe that education is not merely a process of transferring knowledge—it is a catalyst for change. We are looking for founding faculty who share this vision. If you care deeply about students, not just as learners but as individuals, and if you view teaching as an opportunity to inspire curiosity and change perspectives, you will find your place here. We seek educators who embrace interdisciplinary teaching, see value in connecting the dots across fields and are willing to co-create knowledge with colleagues and practitioners from diverse backgrounds. At Nayanta, teaching is not a solitary act but a collaborative and dynamic process.

Our ideal faculty member is also a curious learner. Whether through meaningful research addressing real-world challenges or engaging deeply with India’s developmental landscape, we want individuals willing to grow alongside the institution. Our faculty will research important questions with rigour and will be keen to translate their research to students and external stakeholders. The Nayanta faculty will be open to multiple lenses to approach any problem and welcome opportunities to collaborate with researchers across disciplines, institutions and countries. Our faculty will also be active research mentors and welcome the opportunity to mentor doctoral students in research.

This is an opportunity to shape more than just minds; it is a chance to help shape an institution from its foundational years. We are looking for builders who see this phase as a rare privilege to leave their mark, from defining institutional values to establishing new practices and partnerships with industry, government, and community sectors.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Joining Nayanta is not just a job—it’s an invitation to co-create a world-class institution. Nayanta’s first cohort of faculty will teach modules in our ground-breaking Foundation Programme. They will also co-design and teach core and elective courses for the majors, specialisations, and postgraduate programs that we plan to offer in the coming years.

Faculty here will find an environment that values collaboration and inclusion, where their voices shape the decisions that define academic excellence. The university will invest deeply in your professional development, offering mentorship from world-class academics, opportunities for faculty exchanges with global institutions, and dedicated time to pursue impactful research with seed funding.

Research Infrastructure and Resources

Nayanta University is committed to advancing impact-driven scholarship that engages directly with societal, economic, and policy challenges. At Nayanta, you will have the resources, research assistance, and infrastructure that match the best institutions, allowing you to focus on work that truly matters. Through partnerships with industry, government, and the social sector, including the Confederation of Indian Industry, faculty will have access to high-quality datasets and applied research opportunities that enable work at the intersection of theory and practice.

Interdisciplinary inquiry will be strengthened through Centres of Excellence, which will serve as collaborative hubs for research on policy-relevant and socially significant themes. Faculty joining Nayanta in its founding phase will play an active role in conceiving, shaping, and guiding these centres, thereby defining the university’s long-term research priorities and culture. To enable sustained research productivity, teaching responsibilities will be structured to ensure protected research time—at least three months during the academic year, in addition to two months in the summer without teaching obligations. Nayanta’s promotion and career advancement frameworks will also prioritise the quality, rigour, and real-world impact of scholarly contributions over sheer volume of output.

Culture and Compensation

Beyond resources, what truly sets Nayanta apart is its culture. Faculty are encouraged to take ownership of initiatives they care about, innovate, and collaborate across disciplines. With a term dedicated to research every year, a promotion system that values quality over quantity, and competitive compensation better than India’s top IITs, Nayanta ensures a balance between ambition and sustainability.

At its core, Nayanta is a space where you can shape not only students' minds but also the university's future and, by extension, the broader landscape of higher education in India. If you are passionate about education and excited by the opportunity to build, lead, and inspire, Nayanta awaits you.
