Social Media Manager (Part-Time, Remote)

Reports To: Director of Communications
Location: Fully Remote (Occasional in-person events in the DMV region)
Hours: 5–8 hours per week
Compensation: $250 per month (Includes creation of 15 original, non-AI-generated graphics per month)

Migrants Empowered (formerly C&J Migrant Solutions Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering African, Caribbean, and Afro-Latino migrant families throughout Prince George's County and the greater DMV region.
Through immigration legal services, citizenship preparation, ESL education, workforce development, technology training, food assistance, and community outreach, we help families transition from uncertainty to opportunity, isolation to belonging, and crisis to long-term stability.

Migrants Empowered is seeking an experienced, creative, and mission-driven Social Media Manager to elevate our digital presence, increase community engagement, and strengthen awareness of the programs and services that support immigrant families throughout Maryland and Washington, DC.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with exceptional graphic design abilities, strong storytelling skills, and experience managing nonprofit or community-based social media platforms. This individual should understand how to create engaging, culturally responsive content that drives community engagement, volunteer recruitment, donor interest, and program participation.

Key Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy
- Develop and manage a monthly content calendar aligned with organizational campaigns and events.
- Publish 3–4 posts per week across priority platforms:
- Recommend strategies to increase engagement, followers, and community awareness.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity.
Graphic Design & Content Creation
- Design 15 original, high-quality graphics per month (AI-generated graphics are not permitted).
- Create visually compelling educational, promotional, advocacy, fundraising, and event graphics.
- Produce short-form video content including:
- Instagram Reels
- Facebook Reels
- Stories
- Behind-the-scenes content
- Volunteer highlights
- Client success stories
- Community events
- Edit videos using professional editing tools.
Copywriting
Write engaging captions that:
- Encourage community interaction
- Increase event participation
- Promote nonprofit initiatives
- Educate audiences on immigration-related topics
- Inspire donor and volunteer engagement
Community Engagement
- Monitor comments, messages, and community interactions daily.
- Respond to routine inquiries within 24 hours.
- Escalate program-specific inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Build relationships with partner organizations through tagging and collaborative campaigns.
Analytics & Reporting
Track and report monthly performance metrics including:
- Reach
- Engagement
- Impressions
- Follower growth
- Top-performing posts
- Audience demographics
Provide recommendations to improve future campaigns.
Campaign Support
Assist in promoting:
- Citizenship Workshops
- Immigration Legal Clinics
- ESL Classes
- Workforce Development
- Technology Classes
- Volunteer Recruitment
- Fundraising Campaigns

- Holiday Campaigns

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- Minimum 1 year of social media management experience (professional, freelance, internship, or nonprofit experience accepted)
- Strong portfolio demonstrating original graphic design work
- Experience managing organizational social media accounts
- Excellent written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Reliable internet connection
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines
