K-2 Social Studies

K–2 Social Studies Teacher

ASTEME Academy

About ASTEME Academy

ASTEME Academy is a nonprofit, progressive K–9 school dedicated to inspiring students to become curious, independent thinkers, and lifelong learners. Through interdisciplinary, hands-on learning experiences, we encourage children to ask questions, explore big ideas, solve problems, and make meaningful connections across subjects.

We are seeking a passionate, creative, and energetic educator to teach K–2 Social Studies. This is a unique opportunity for someone who believes learning should be active, engaging, and driven by curiosity. Our ideal candidate brings history, geography, cultures, civics, economics, and global citizenship to life through interactive lessons, storytelling, simulations, projects, games, and hands-on activities.

Rather than relying solely on textbooks, we encourage teachers to spark wonder through meaningful experiences. One day students might become archaeologists uncovering ancient artifacts, create maps of their communities, explore traditions from around the world, investigate famous historical figures, participate in mock elections, or discover how communities grow and change over time.

Above all, we're looking for someone who is genuinely excited about inspiring young learners. We welcome both credentialed and non-credentialed educators who bring enthusiasm, creativity, and a broad range of interests into the classroom. If you're the person who lights up talking about ancient civilizations, world cultures, geography, famous landmarks, historical mysteries, explorers, influential leaders, or fascinating moments in history—and can turn those passions into unforgettable learning experiences—you'll fit right in.

Responsibilities

Teach engaging K–2 Social Studies classes using hands-on, inquiry-based instruction.

Design creative lessons that explore history, geography, civics, economics, cultures, and communities.

Foster curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking in every lesson.

Create project-based learning experiences that encourage exploration, discussion, and discovery.

Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of diverse learners.

Build a positive, inclusive classroom community where every child feels valued and supported.

Incorporate educational technology and interactive learning tools to enhance instruction.

Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessments.

Communicate regularly with families regarding student growth and classroom activities.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.

Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, field trips, and community events.

Maintain an organized, engaging, and safe learning environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred.

Experience teaching elementary-aged students, particularly K–2, is preferred.

Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to create engaging, student-centered lessons.

Passion for inquiry-based, hands-on education.

A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to a positive school culture.

Why ASTEME?

At ASTEME Academy, we don't just teach history or geography—we help students understand the world around them.

Our teachers have the freedom to create unforgettable learning experiences that encourage students to ask questions, appreciate different cultures, understand how communities function, and recognize the connections between the past and the present. Whether students are exploring ancient civilizations, learning about local government, celebrating traditions from around the world, or investigating the stories of influential people, learning is active, meaningful, and memorable.

If you're looking for a school where creativity is celebrated, innovation is encouraged, and every day is an opportunity to inspire young minds, we'd love to hear from you.
