Language Arts Teacher

Position Overview

ASTEME Academy is a nonprofit, progressive K–9 school dedicated to inspiring students to become curious, independent thinkers and lifelong learners. Through interdisciplinary, hands-on learning experiences, we encourage students to ask questions, explore big ideas, and make meaningful connections across subjects.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and student-centered Language Arts Teacher to inspire a love of reading, writing, and communication in students across grades 3–8. We are looking for an educator who believes literacy is more than teaching novels and grammar—it is about helping students become curious thinkers, confident communicators, and lifelong learners.

At ASTEME Academy, subjects are intentionally connected through interdisciplinary, project-based learning. Our Language Arts program integrates literature, history, science, art, engineering, current events, and technology to create meaningful learning experiences that challenge students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and communicate with confidence.

The ideal candidate is passionate about innovative education, enjoys designing engaging lessons, and values building strong relationships with students and families.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Language Arts to students in grades 3–8.
  • Develop engaging lessons in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening.
  • Collaborate with another 3-8 Language Arts teacher to create a curriculum 
  • Foster a classroom culture that promotes curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and academic excellence.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and student needs.
  • Integrate project-based learning and real-world applications into literacy instruction.
  • Utilize educational technology to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Assess student progress through formal and informal assessments while providing meaningful feedback.
  • Maintain regular communication with families regarding student growth and progress.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to design interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Participate in school events, professional development, and collaborative planning meetings.
  • Create a positive, organized, and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued.

Qualifications


 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or humanities, or related field- please feel free to apply if your education is in subject matter rather than teaching
  • Experience teaching upper elementary and/or middle school students preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of reading instruction, writing development, grammar, and literacy best practices.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a highly innovative educational environment.
  • Passion for creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with project-based learning.
  • Familiarity with educational technology platforms such as Google Classroom, Canva, Kahoot, or similar tools.
  • Experience in differentiating instruction for a variety of learners.
  • A growth mindset and willingness to innovate and continuously improve instruction.
