Digital Ministry Technician

GFUMC Digital Ministry Technician Position Description

1. Position Title: Digital Ministry Technician (DMT)
• Status: Part-time; 10- 15 hours/week; Non-exempt.
• Reports To: Senior Pastor 
• Schedule: Works Sunday, 9:30am to 11:30am in the Sanctuary and other hours (some may be remote) in preparation for Sunday worship service and other sanctuary events and tasks.

2. Purpose and Contribution 
• The Digital Ministry Technician will lead a team to support the pastor and congregation through online communication of worship services and other sanctuary events through audio, video, and digital platforms.

3. Core Responsibilities 
• Worship Production & Livestreaming
o Produce quality Online Streaming worship services by performing sound check of microphones, monitoring speakers and music audio during services, operating camera(s) and software.
o Manage camera switching, graphics (lyrics/scripture), and high-quality audio mixing for the digital audience and live sound in the sanctuary.
o Manage presentation of slides, videos, previously recorded music and other digital materials for the sanctuary congregation during services.
o Troubleshoot technical issues in real-time to ensure minimal disruption to the worship experience.
o Perform other digital ministry tasks assigned by the Senior Pastor.
• Audio-Visual Oversight
o Set up and shut down microphones, monitors, and video equipment for Sunday services and special events (weddings, funerals).
o Ensure all sanctuary screens and projection systems are synchronized with the live stream.
o Work with liturgist, music director, and/or other church staff as needed.
o Perform regular maintenance and software updates on all A/V equipment.
• Digital Engagement & Content
o Prepare online supporting content, such as slides with lyrics and scripture, prior to Sunday morning and other services.
o Record and edit service segments for "on-demand" viewing on YouTube, Facebook, or the church website.
o Maintain a consistent and appealing digital image of online church content.
o Work with, train, and guide A/V volunteers.

• Digital Stewardship
o Manage the church’s YouTube channel and/or Facebook Live settings, including titles, descriptions, and metadata.
o Maintain an inventory of all digital equipment and provide recommendations to the Board of Trustees for necessary hardware/software upgrades. 
o Program and manage our front-yard sign

4. Qualifications & Competencies
• Spiritual/Ethical: Commitment to the Christian faith and Methodist tradition; adherence to the Safe Sanctuaries policy (required for all UMC staff – item 5).
• Education/Experience: Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word). A demonstrated background of high reliability. 
• Skills: Competency in digital communications; effective written and verbal communication; computer skills; good organizational skills; flexibility to meet the needs of occasional adjustments .

5. Safe Sanctuaries Requirements
• Background Check: Must successfully pass a background check.
• United Methodist Church Safe Sanctuaries: Must complete the Virginia Conference Safe Sanctuaries training and adhere to all policies regarding the protection of children and vulnerable adults.

6. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
• Primary location of work: Church sanctuary and occasional activities in other parts of the church building and grounds.
• Physical Requirements: Be able to make adjustments to controls and wiring located in floor level compartments.

7. Evaluation and Growth
• Probationary Period: An initial review occurs after the first 90 days to ensure adequacy of fit for all parties.
• Annual Review: The Staff Parish Pastor Relations Committee, in consultation with the Senior Pastor, conducts a formal evaluation annually based on the Section 3 Core Responsibilities and any subsequent goals established in consultation with the person serving in the DMT position.
• Professional Development: The SPPRC, in consultation with the Senior Pastor and the person in the DMT position, may seek resources and/or approve recommended training for the person occupying the DMT position.

8.  At Will: The Digital Ministry Technician  position is at will and either the Church or the Digital Ministry Technician may terminate the position for any lawful reason.
