Children's Art Instructor

Job Title: Children's Art Instructor (Ages 2–11)Job Overview

⁠Kids at Art, a premier children's art studio located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is seeking a passionate and energetic Art Instructor. This role focuses on teaching real visual art techniques and fundamentals—not just basic crafts—to young artists aged 2 to 11. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Class Instruction: Lead small, engaging classes focusing on the foundational basics of drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage.
  • Medium Exploration: Introduce students to various materials, including tempera, watercolor, pencil, cray pas, and mixed media.
  • Early Childhood Support: Guide toddler process-art classes (ages 2–4), ensuring supportive interaction alongside attending parents or caregivers.
  • Lesson Planning: Create age-appropriate, imaginative projects that stimulate inventiveness and individual attention.
  • Studio Operations: Prep materials before classes, maintain a clean, organized studio environment, and assist with clean-up.
  • Event Support: Assist with special events, holiday workshops, and one-of-a-kind studio art birthday parties. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (BFA) or Art Education.
  • Teaching Experience: Prior experience working with early childhood or elementary-aged children.
  • Artistic Expertise: Strong personal foundation in fine arts and high comfort working with diverse studio materials.
  • Classroom Management: Exceptional ability to keep young students engaged, inspired, and safe.
  • Soft Skills: Extreme patience, high energy, and excellent communication skills with both kids and Upper East Side parents. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Work Schedule & Benefits

  • Position Type: Part-time.
  • Location: On-site  on 2nd Avenue (between 73rd and 74th Streets), steps from the Second Avenue Subway.
